Science
Christian Haas is a Professor for Sea Ice Geophysics and Remote Sensing at the University of Bremen, Germany. Until recently he was a Canada Research Chair at York University, Toronto, Canada. Christian's research is the role of sea ice in the climate and ecosystem, and for humans. He has pioneered electromagnetic ice thickness measurements which can be carried out from moving vehicles and aircraft. With these he has observed the variability and change of sea ice in the Arctic and Northwest Passage since more than 20 years, and has travelled 1000s of kilometers by snowmobile to survey the remote straits and sounds of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Christian is looking forward to the Goodgear trip which will provide invaluable data and measurements that he will use mostly for safety and detecting thin ice.
