Diary

July 23-28, 2024

By the evening of July 23, we arrived in Amsterdam. It’s a big city with a huge number of people on bicycles. We celebrated the birthday of our team member, Sergei. During that day, we covered 250 km.

The next day, we continued exploring the city and visited the NEMO Museum. This place is perfect for young and middle-aged children; for them, it feels like paradise. This is how museums should be for kids interested in science! You can touch everything, twist things, and climb around. After that, we checked out the “Live Long” exhibition. We interacted with art and took a stroll through the streets of Amsterdam.

On June 25, we said goodbye to Amsterdam and explored its outskirts. The first town on our route was Volendam, which looked like a movie set. We walked around as if we were in a film. It is located by the sea, and our guide mentioned that Volendam is the richest town in the Netherlands. Next, we visited Monnickendam (Monks’ Dam). There, we strolled through the local market and watched how fish is smoked and wooden shoes are made. After that, we headed to Edam, another seaside town known for its cheese.

Then we have traveled through Germany and on June 28 we reached Luxembourg. It is a small country with a population of 670,000 people, but it is the richest in the world per person. There are three official languages. In some ways, it is similar to Germany, and in other ways, to France. The capital, which has the same name as the country, has very beautiful and varied architecture. Instead of stopping at a hotel, we found a parking spot in the center and went for a walk around the old city. It looks a lot like the old parts of French cities. We explored the underground casemates that were dug into the mountain in the tenth century. It is a really interesting city.
