The expedition team embarked on the South American stage of journey. The four-hour flight from Antarctica to Punta Arenas marked the transition. During these days, the participants took time to rest, reorganize their belongings, and prepare for the next phase. Their activities included exploring the city and its landmarks, refueling and cleaning the vehicles, and finalizing preparations.
On the next day of the Expedition, team faced a long and demanding workday, covering more than 500 km. The journey northward began early in the morning, as the team needed to reach the Chilean-Argentinian border by 7 PM. The final destination for the day was the town of El Calafate. Punta Arenas bid us farewell with fog. By noon, we arrived at the border, saying goodbye to Chile and then crossing into Argentina. The border crossing was relatively swift. Along the road to El Calafate, there were several very charming spots, and we covered a total distance of 620 km during the day.
At the beginning of the following day, we headed to the Perito Moreno Glacier. This is truly the Andes. This ice field holds the third-largest reserve of freshwater in the world.
Then we drove back to Calafate, refueled, and set off towards the town of El Chaltén.
