Diary

February 17-18, 2025

On day 405, we set off for the sacred city of Caral, believed to be the oldest known city in the Americas. A couple of days before our departure, a bridge on our route collapsed, complicating our journey. We covered 207 km in eight hours, but we were only halfway to our destination.

As we were leaving Caral, our navigator directed us to a road that became impassable just five minutes later due to a raging stream. Unable to cross, we had to find an alternate route. We finally reached our hotel at 10:30 PM. Overall, we traveled 547 km that day.

On day 406, we continued heading strictly north along the Pacific coastline, with our destination set for the city of Chiclayo. Reflecting on the previous day’s adventures, we decided to stick to schedule and avoid any unnecessary delays.

The main challenge of today’s route was navigating through numerous towns and cities, both large and small, which kept interrupting the flow of our journey. As a result, our average speed for the day barely reached 50 km/h. Setting off at 10 AM, we managed to cover 370 km in almost 7.5 hours.

The journey itself was relatively uneventful, with little of note along the way. Gradually, we’re making our way closer to the equator. By the end of the day, we had traveled a total of 372 km.
