Diary

January 24-26, 2025

The team faced a long working day — we had to cover approximately 600 km with the final destination being the town of Perito Moreno. At the 170 km mark, the dirt road began. Most of our journey through Argentina takes place on Ruta 40, one of the most famous and longest roads in the world, stretching about 5,200 km. It runs through Argentina along the country’s western border, parallel to the Andes, with the highest road point at the Abra del Acay pass (4,895 meters) in the Salta province. This iconic route for travellers combines breathtaking natural scenery, diverse climate zones — from deserts to glaciers and mountain valleys — and a rich culture.

On the following days, we continued our journey on Ruta 40. What is worth noting is the very low population density in the areas we are travelling through — vast uninhabited lands. We’ve already travelled 1,800 km but haven’t seen a single cultivated field. It’s getting warmer and there is more greenery.

The next day, we had approximately the same distance to cover with the final destination being San Carlos de Bariloche. The landscapes outside the window were mesmerizing — mountains and mountain lakes. By the end of the day, we ascended 1.5 kilometres and stopped at a ski resort.
