Diary

August 5-9, 2024

The Transglobal Car Expedition’s stop in Geneva marked the beginning of the first Transglobal Schools Citizen Science program at CERN, the world’s largest scientific laboratory. During the North Pole and European leg of the expedition, we acted as goodwill ambassadors, promoting two international experiments: CREDO particle hunters and Globe at Night, which focus on studying light pollution.

Our goal is to inspire young people to engage with science and have the courage to seek answers to important questions. We collaborated with PolarQuest and scientists Paola Catapano and Rosi Mondardini to bring this event to CERN.

On August 6-7, 25 high school students from Uganda, Lebanon, and Georgia visited CERN, with some flying for the first time. They interacted with scientists, built cosmic ray detectors for the Antarctic expedition, and explored various experiments, including the Large Hadron Collider. The teams joined forces to compete in the CREDO competition, finishing in 6th place. Each team received a Special Operations watch from MTM as a prize, which they decided to auction off to purchase a cosmic ray detector for their schools.

We had a fantastic time and would like to thank all the participants for their contributions and support!
