Diary

April 3–4, 2024

We made good visual progress when we could, but weather stopped that, and we found it difficult to calibrate our satellite maps. On balance, the result was good. But we’re all feeling the pressure of getting to the pole and back to Greenland before the melt. So even when we don’t see the clock, we know it’s ticking.

The ice started out rough and got VERY open which allowed us to do a lot of distance in a short time. However quite a lot of hidden cracks we had to watch for.

Now we have 87km left until the pole. Probably that will be two days or so but it’s still too early to know for sure as open water and big ice can slow us down. And then of course the expedition is only half over!
