Science
Christian Haas is a Professor of Sea Ice Geophysics and Remote Sensing at the University of Bremen, Germany. Until recently, he was a Canada Research Chair at York University, Toronto, Canada. Christian's research is on the role of sea ice in the climate, ecosystem and for humans. He has pioneered electromagnetic ice thickness measurements which can be carried out from moving vehicles and aircraft. With these, he has observed the variability and change of sea ice in the Arctic and Northwest Passage for more than 20 years, and has traveled 1000s of kilometers by snowmobile to survey the remote straits and sounds of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Christian is looking forward to the Transglobal Car Expedition, which will provide invaluable data and measurements that he will use for safety and detecting thin ice.
