Vasily Elagin

Born on February 20, 1953 Vasily Elagin is the head and organizer of the MLAE expedition and the chief designer of the Emelya cars.


He holds a degree in Geology and is an Honored Master of Sports International Class in mountaineering, having achieved the "Snow Leopard" title. He has climbed several mountains, including Everest, Cho Oyu, and the Kanchenjunga traverse in the Himalayas, Aconcagua in South America, and the Vinson Massif in Antarctica. He has also been on sea sailing voyages.
Vasily participated in the Paris-Dakar rally and was part of the team that prepared the Paris-Moscow-Beijing rally. He rode along the coast of the Chukchi Sea with the Buran for about 1000 km. Moreover, he has taken part in several automobile Arctic expeditions of the "Polar Ring," which inspired him to build a car that could reach the North Pole.


In March 2008, he successfully drove his car, Emelya, from Salekhard to the northernmost point of the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago, Cape Arctic. In March-April 2009, he led a team of seven people on two cars, Emelya-1 and Emelya-2, from Severnaya Zemlya to the North Pole.
