A Journey of Scientific and Exploratory Success: Transglobal Car Expedition Launches First Transglobal Schools Citizen Science Program at CERN

Transglobal Car Expedition and CERN Inspire Global Youth
Geneva, Switzerland – 6-7 August 2024 — The Transglobal Car Expedition represented a pivotal achievement with its stop in Geneva, inaugurating the first Transglobal Schools Citizen Science program at CERN, the world’s largest scientific research lab. This initiative is part of the North Pole and European leg of the expedition, where team members served as goodwill ambassadors to promote international scientific experiments such as CREDO and Globe at Night, both focusing on the study of light pollution.
The primary goal of this program is to inspire young people to engage deeply with science and to cultivate the courage required to seek answers to pressing global questions. The Transglobal Car Expedition collaborated with PolarQuest and esteemed scientists, Paola Catapano and Rosi Mondardini, to bring this enriching event to CERN.
On August 6-7, twenty-five high school students from Uganda, Lebanon, and Georgia experienced their first visit to CERN, with some flying for the very first time. These students had the unique opportunity to interact with world-renowned scientists, construct cosmic ray detectors for an upcoming Antarctic expedition, and explore groundbreaking experiments, including the Large Hadron Collider.
The international teams of students also participated in the CREDO competition, achieving a commendable 6th-place finish. Each team was awarded a Special Operations watch from MTM, which they chose to auction off in order to fund the purchase of a cosmic ray detector for their respective schools.
The event was a tremendous success, full of inspiring moments and incredible learning experiences. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants for their invaluable contributions and support.

About Transglobal Car Expedition:

The Transglobal Car Expedition is a pioneering initiative to circumnavigate the Earth by travelling through the North and South Poles. The expedition incorporates human adventure, technological innovation, scientific data collection and educational media initiatives. At the heart of this amazing journey is a passion for discovery and a collective desire for the local and scientific communities to benefit from its passage.
The expedition, which has been carefully planned over five years and has included several full exploration trials in the Arctic and Antarctic, includes explorers and scientists from eight countries including Canada, the United States, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Iceland, Germany and Italy. The Icelandic and Russian teams are considered the world’s experts in wheeled polar travel and this is the first time they have come together for an expedition.
