Diary

November 3-4, 2024

We embark on the final stage of our epic journey across South Africa. As we head west, the road signs that point towards Cape Town signal our progress. Today, our adventure takes us to the charming town of Patensie. Along the way, we visited a cheetah sanctuary — we were thrilled to finally encounter cheetahs up close. Our wildlife sightings don’t end there; we also catch glimpses of meerkats, lions, leopards, and hyenas. As we continue, we nearly reach the Indian Ocean and even catch a fleeting view of its vast expanse through the car window. Turning westward, we push on towards Cape Town, surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful landscapes that captivate our senses.

We continue our journey westward, gradually making our way towards Cape Town. Today’s destination is the town of Willowmore, home to around 7,000 residents. Along the way, we visited the Baviaanskloof National Park, which translates from Dutch to “Valley of the Baboons.” Our route presented an exciting challenge when we encountered a water barrier—approximately 300 meters of road that ran through a rushing stream. But we’ve navigated through tougher terrains. It was just another adventure in our journey, and soon we were back on solid ground, ready to explore more of the stunning landscapes South Africa has to offer.

We spent the night on a charming farm, where we were warmly welcomed by a hospitable host, and enjoyed a delightful evening in his company.ate and absence of electricity.
