We departed from the Kingdom of the Baobabs. Our goal today is the town of Khwai, 340 km away. We travelled for 7 hours, with half of the journey on a rough dirt road. Upon entering, we were greeted by another local choir and immediately went on a small safari. We haven’t seen any lions yet. Tomorrow, we’re setting off at 6:30 AM, having covered 363 km today.
The next day we rose early at 5:30 AM, departing for a morning safari at 6:30 AM. The proximity to water greatly increased the greenery around us, which in turn boosted the presence of wildlife. The first animals spotted were hyenas. Three playful pups were having fun in the clearing.
Then came a parade of giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes, and elephants. The highlight, however, was finally seeing lions today — not just one but an entire pride of four lions and three lionesses. They were lounging in the shade of the trees in the clearing. The guide said they had feasted on a buffalo yesterday, so our vehicle held no interest in them. On the way back, we saw a herd of elephants bathing in the river.
Toward evening, part of the team went on a canoe safari. Tomorrow, we’ll continue our journey south.
