We are on the ship, moving at a steady speed. And the ocean stayed calm for the whole week. We’ve traveled 2,750 km in a week and left 8 countries behind.
On 7th night in the ocean we crossed the third thousand kilometers. We rounded the Horn of Africa and are now heading straight to Namibia, moving away from the coast. It is raining, the waves are bigger, but the heat has eased.
One of our main forms of entertainment has been our meals. At first, we had breakfast at 9:00 AM, lunch at 2:00 PM, and dinner at 7:00 PM. After a few days, we realized we were overeating because the food was so good! So, we switched to two meals a day: breakfast at 9:00 AM and a combined lunch-dinner at 6:00 PM. The menu stayed the same since lunch dishes were also served for dinner. The canteen is open 24/7, so we always have hot coffee, tea, cold meats, cheeses, fruits, juices, yogurts, nuts, and more—almost unlimited amounts. Our cook, Alex, has worked on ships for 8 years and knows many cuisines because our crews are mostly international.
On Day 8 in the ocean, we passed three more African countries. Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. According to the captain’s calculations, we should pass the equator closer to midnight today. And considering the kilometers we have traveled, this is the halfway point.
Day 9 in the ocean. We passed through three more African countries: Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. The captain says we should cross the equator around midnight.
